At Labour of Love Doula Services we understand that every client is unique and has different needs, experiences,

knowledge, and desires. Sessions and services can vary depending on many factors.

Below is a general outline of what a client can expect during theirtime with a doula. In addition to the in-person session,

your birth doula will be available 24/7 for support through telephone and e-mail.

2 Prenatal Sessions:

~ Obtain client information

~ Discuss current pregnancy history

~ Discuss previous pregnancy/childbirths/children

~ Go over Doula services and limitations

~ Discuss labour and delivery expectations, hopes, fears etc.

~ Teach pain coping techniques and comfort positions

~ Discussion of medications and interventions

~ Discussion of making a birth/post pregnancy/newborn plan

~ Discuss Breastfeeding

Prenatal sessions generally take place in the third trimester and range from 1-3 hours each

Labour and Delivery:

~ You will call your doula when you feel labour has begun

~ At the appropriate time you will meet with your Doula at the hospital or your home, or

wherever you are comfortable

~ Your Doula will provide support through the entire labour, delivery, and up to a couple

hours after your baby is born

~ Your Doula can also help with photos and video during labour, as time permits.

2 Postpartum visits:

~ Offer breastfeeding support

~ Help with newborn care and provide information

~ Discussions of mother’s well being

~ Discussion of birth experience. Answering questions, clarifying events etc.

~ Discuss postpartum depression

~ Discuss community resources for parents

~ Your Doula will also provide you with a birth story, written to the baby, as a keepsake.

Postpartum visit #1 occurs within the first few days after birth, and visit #2

is anywhere from a few days to a week later.
